Lost dog poster
To find your missing dog, you have to communicate a lot! The Guide already details everything you have to do, nevertheless, this page describes a very important topic : posters. These posters, which you will need to place around the area where your chien was lost, are also called notices, posters, flyers, or missing pet alerts… in any case, the principle is the same: to inform as visibly as possible about the loss of your pet. At the same time, they provide the essential information to contact you.
Create a Lost dog Poster
Luckily, by posting an ad on this site, a large part of the work is already done! On your ad page, there is indeed a link that allows you to automatically print a poster. So, there\'s no need to start using various software for this part.
The essential information is already there and will make a perfect poster template:
- A large red title "CHIEN LOST" that is clearly visible
- A photo of your chien
- A short description with essential information: color, breed, size, gender... You shouldn\'t give too much detail to keep the poster visually clear.
- The location and date of the disappearance. Again, there\'s no need to be overly specific about the location, as the mere presence of the poster in an area is enough to indicate that an animal has been lost nearby.
- A QR code (more information below)
The QR Code / Flash Code
On the poster, the site lost-dog.org was the first to include a QR code, also known as a flash code. It\'s an image like the one to the right. By using the camera on a modern phone, it\'s possible to scan this QR code to be redirected directly to the page on the site that corresponds to your ad. This way, someone who sees your poster can access the latest updates on your ad: comments, map. Even better, maybe you\'ve already found your chien, but the poster was left up: thanks to the QR code, the person will immediately see on the site that the animal has been found.
Print a Lost chien Poster
As mentioned above, thanks to your ad on the site, you already have a pre-made poster. Now, you just need to print multiple copies using your printer. The site is set up so that the poster fits on a single A4 page. For economical reasons, you can print just one copy on your personal printer and then make photocopies. Depending on the area where you lost your pet, you may need more or fewer copies: many copies in the city, fewer in the countryside.
Then, place about half of the posters in plastic sleeves to protect them from the rain.
Posting the Poster
At this stage, you have posters in plastic sleeves (for areas not sheltered from the rain) and a stack of posters without sleeves (for indoors).
Ask bakeries, pharmacies, supermarkets, and the post office to post a copy. They rarely refuse, but sometimes they forget to put it up; so, if possible, put it up yourself with their permission. Also post them on permanent trash containers, near ATMs, near mailboxes, and where parents wait at school exits. Post them at intersections, near crosswalks, and at eye level for drivers.
- It is prohibited to post on road signs or their supports
- It is prohibited to post on private property!
- Posting outside designated boards is tolerated but is technically a “wild posting” offense that can be subject to fines. It\'s important to keep a list of locations where you put up a poster and to remove them after some time.
Finally, when you meet acquaintances or neighbors, feel free to give them a poster. You never know; they might have seen your pet or will see it.
Note: You can also post for a found chien. Just like for a lost chien, the site allows you to automatically print a poster for a found chien.
